Privacy Policy
Money moves on proof, and proof means evidence. PlacePrize works by holding a before-and-after photograph to a high standard, so the data we collect is mostly that evidence and what surrounds it. This policy explains what we gather, why, and how long we keep it. It is incorporated into our Terms of Service.
The short version
- Payments and identity checks are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number, bank account number, or Social Security number.
- We collect the photos you capture in the app and the location, time, and device information attached to them, because that is the evidence a prize is paid on.
- We use that evidence to verify prizes, prevent fraud, improve our verification systems, and publish before-and-after results.
- We do not sell your personal information for marketing, and we do not run third-party advertising trackers.
- PlacePrize is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it.
Who we are
PlacePrize is operated by PlacePrize LLC, a Connecticut limited liability company based in New Haven. When this policy says "we," "us," or "PlacePrize," it means that company.
Payments and identity are handled by Stripe
All payments and identity verification on PlacePrize are processed by Stripe under Stripe's own terms and privacy policy. When you fund a prize, claim a prize, or verify your identity, you provide that information directly into Stripe's systems. PlacePrize does not receive or store your full payment card number, bank account details, or government identification numbers. We receive confirmation of status, for example that a payment succeeded or that an identity check passed, not the underlying sensitive data. Stripe's handling of your information is governed by Stripe's privacy policy.
What we collect
Account information. Basic details needed to run your account, such as your name, email address, and the identifiers Stripe returns after verification.
Photographs and the evidence around them. When you capture a before or after photo in the app, we collect the image and the information attached to it: GPS and location data, timestamps, and device and sensor metadata (including EXIF data). This is the proof a prize is judged on, which is why we ask for it precisely and why it must be captured in the app rather than uploaded from your library.
Submissions and activity. Captions, labels, and other content you submit, along with records of the prizes you post, claim, or contribute to, and the verdicts on them.
We do not collect contact lists, and we do not track you across other apps and websites.
How we use what we collect
We use your information to:
- Verify prizes. The Referee evaluates your proof pair against the published conditions of a prize to decide whether it is met.
- Prevent and investigate fraud. Location, timestamps, device data, and image analysis help us catch staged messes, recycled photos, spoofed locations, and other abuse.
- Improve our systems. We use submitted images and the data derived from them to develop, train, evaluate, and benchmark our verification and fraud-detection systems, including the Referee. This use is described in the Terms of Service and you consent to it before you submit anything.
- Publish results. We may publish before-and-after images and completion records to celebrate finished prizes and promote the Service. Our rules forbid prizes that target identifiable people.
- Operate and protect the Service. Run the platform, comply with the law, enforce our Terms, and keep users safe.
How long we keep it
Because PlacePrize is a verification and fraud-prevention system, evidence is retained. We may keep submitted photographs, metadata, location data, timestamps, device information, reviewer notes, and automated analyses for as long as needed for fraud prevention, auditing, legal compliance, system development, research, quality assurance, and archival, as described in the Terms of Service.
Account deletion
You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. Some submitted evidence and records may be retained for fraud prevention, legal, and audit reasons, as described above and in the Terms of Service.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing.
- We do not run third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
- We do not put your data anywhere it does not need to be to run, verify, and protect the Service.
Children
PlacePrize is intended for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the Service, contact us and we will address it.
Your choices
You can review and update your account information, and you can ask us about the data associated with your account by writing to support@placeprize.com. Some information must be retained for fraud prevention, legal, and audit reasons even after account deletion, as described above. Where the law gives you specific rights over your personal information, we will honor them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the updated version here with a new effective date.
